The Government of Karnataka has set up the Skill Development Entrepreneurship and Livelihood (SDEL) department to help the youth acquire necessary skills and expertise to achieving sustainable livelihoods by increasing their employability and enhancing their entrepreneurship skills.
Kaushalkar.com is a comprehensive website under the Kaushalya Karnataka scheme of the SDEL Department, Government of Karnataka where candidates seeking jobs can register and choose the skill training required to increase employability while training providers can register with details of their training centers. There are around 7.5 lakh youth registered in kaushalkar.com to get counseling, skill assessment, training or job assistance across Karnataka.
To further promote Kaushalya Karnataka in the sphere of entrepreneurship and create vibrant entrepreneurship support cell, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development of Karnataka (CEDOK) proposes to set up “Disha” Entrepreneur Guidance Cells in Karnataka with the support of Department of Skill Development Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Department of Industry and Commerce and United Nations Development Programme.
The Goal of Disha is to support aspiring entrepreneurs at 16 districts of Karnataka and will cover all the districts of state with added focus on fostering entrepreneurship among women. The district level E Cells would leverage Government Institutions associated with SDEL Department at District level, and with experience in implementing entrepreneurial based programs. The E Cells will provide required information to existing and aspiring entrepreneurs who are interested in generating additional income, potential entrepreneurs in terms of information about schemes, subsidies, skill building, GST, financial loans and contact persons, among others. This will be further supported by a counselor, interactive web portal etc. E Cells is important from the perspective of continued support to existing entrepreneurs and act as a catalyst for creating new micro entrepreneurs.
